Our Artists' Statement

The ‘Seven Deadly Sins’, also known as the Cardinal sins, are a series of seven objectionable vices that have been used in Christianity since early times to shape and educate individuals concerning individual tendencies to sin. Wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy and gluttony serve as the ideas that capture mortals and lead to the destruction of grace. After splitting up the different topics, each person in our group took their own individual spin on there meaning of the word. Whether the image taken was captured on a spur-of-the-moment whim or plotted ahead of time, each artist thought well past the basic connotation of their sin and emphasized they’re own personality and vision of art.

Lust

Photograph by : Eric X. Bracamonte

Desire, Want, Infatuation, Craving.......all characterizations of the sin Lust.  One of the
seven deadly sins that many people are familiar with.  When shooting this photograph, I wanted
to capture the essence of what lust is; the craving and desire for someone in a sexual and sensual
way.  I did not want to put faces or background in this photo for the purpose of wanting
all the the attention to be on the the contact being made between the two people.  The indentations
in the mans back and the closeness of the two bodies I believe shows the desire the woman
has for him.  I believe my interpretation of lust shown in this picture is an accurate portrayal of the
 sin in its raw form.
